A Break From the Traditional
Just like many of you, I am getting a little tired of the same pies that are served at the Thanksgiving Dinner table. So this year I decided to break from the tradition of pies and do a dessert platter of favorites instead. One of the traditional pies that is most popularly served is, of course, Pumpkin Pie. To break from the tradition of the pie, I made Pumpkin Pie Truffles. These wonderful, bite sized goodies are the perfect blend of chocolate and pumpkin pie filling. There are bits of graham cracker crumbs and cinnamon in every bite along side with milk or white chocolate to sweeten it up. You can top them with whatever you would like but I choose fall colored M&Ms and some more graham cracker crumbs.
The next pie that I always think about when it comes to Thanksgiving is Apple Pie. I love the sweetness of the apple filling and the butter taste of the crust. Thanks to Pillsbury, I was able to mix it up but still keep the same taste of the pie. This recipe is a twist on the original pie and they look more like Empanadas than anything else. Warm them up just before dessert and top them off with a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar.
